‘Downs To The Sea’

Falmer Pond Restoration Plans

Thursday 31st August & Sunday 3rd September - 2pm to 5pm

Come along to our stall near the water pump on the north side of Falmer Pond

Brighton & Hove City Council is working in partnership with South Downs National Park and others to apply for funds to restore water bodies across the Downs including Falmer Pond

We are investigating the possibility of:

  • • Removing the build-up of silt

  • • Restoring existing pond edges

  • • Improving the efficiency of water inlets

  • • Enhancing pond vegetation to benefit wildlife

  • • Reducing the tree canopy where leaf litter is problematic

There will also be an opportunity to join the Friends of Falmer Pond

Please feel free to bring along any old photos you may have of the pond

The topographical survey has been completed and we await the result. The water depth and silt depth stuides are complete and the results are available here as a download.

Our friendly Ranger, Nick Lane has updated us to say that...

"The earliest submission date for the ‘Downs To The Sea’ lottery application will be February 2024. Our surveyor is working hard to get the required survey work completed which will allow enough time to pull it all together as a report to form part of the application.

Nick is also exploring the practicality of a future boardwalk/dipping platform for the pond. We will be looking to undertake some survey work of visitors to the pond during the community event/s."
