Wonderful News…
Funding for Falmer Pond Restoration Project Research & Planning Approved
Great news from David Larkin, Conservation Manager, for Brighton & Hove. The ‘Downs to the Sea NHLF’ Phase 1 bid has been successful, which means we now have the funds for us to take the first steps in the Falmer Pond Restoration project.
Phase 1 or the Development Phase funds have been awarded by the National Lottery Heritage Fund (NLHF). Phase 2 is also known as the Delivery Phase.
Appointing a specialist to work with local residents, conservation agencies, local council departments and other interested parties to create a detailed plan for the restoration. This will take us to the next part of the process, which is the approval of the detailed plan and associated costs for Phase 2 (Delivery Phase).
Whilst there is no guarantee that a project is approved at phase two, it is a major step in the right direction. Creating the restoration plan will involve significant research and consultation as well as agreement on an overall objective for the project, the input of local residents and supporters will be invaluable.
The contribution of Friends of Falmer Pond to the ongoing maintenance and conservation of this wonderful asset will constitute an important part of the proposal, a strong community proposal will aid our chances of success in the phase 2 round.
The development funding is part of a wider bid to restore wetlands across the region. This initial development funding for “Downs To The Sea” will help the South Downs National Park and its partners work up a major bid for project funding.
